About Lucky Stork

Why we created Lucky Stork

Lucky Stork began with a simple frustration shared by expecting parents everywhere: the naming process felt scattered. Popular lists, scattered articles, and dozens of apps that all seemed to repeat the same short list of names, with meanings of unclear origin. We wanted something better.

We set out to build a baby name tool that puts verified information first. Every meaning, origin, and pronunciation in our database is drawn from public reference materials and cited, so you know where a name's story comes from. No invented facts, no vague "traditional" labels, and no AI-generated meanings.

Lucky Stork is built by a small team passionate about language, culture, and helping families celebrate new beginnings. We are committed to keeping the tool simple, ad-supported, and accessible to everyone, with no account required. Whether you are shortlisting favourites, comparing names side by side, or exploring trending choices, Lucky Stork is here to make the journey joyful and inspiring.

How we research and verify names

Every name in our database includes verified information sourced from established public reference materials. We do not invent meanings or origins. Each record carries a citation showing the source organization, the title of the dataset, the data year, and the date it was last verified.

Our primary sources include:

  • US Social Security Administration — official baby name popularity data for the United States, dating back over a century.
  • UK Office for National Statistics — baby names data for England and Wales.
  • Irish Central Statistics Office — baby names data for Ireland.
  • Behind the Name — etymology references covering name origins, language history, and meaning across cultures.
  • Wikidata — structured historical and biographical references for namesakes.

When a name's meaning is debated or varies by tradition, we mark it clearly and note that the meaning may vary by source. We present namesakes from history as inspiration only, and link to reputable sources so you can learn more.

Our editorial standards

Accuracy. We prioritize verified facts over volume. If we cannot source a meaning or origin confidently, we say so rather than guess.

Neutrality. Historical and cultural descriptions are written to be informative and neutral. Names carry meaning across many traditions, and we aim to present them respectfully and without bias.

Corrections. Names live in language, and language evolves. If you spot an error or have a correction, we want to hear it. Reach out through our contact page and we will review and update the record.

No AI-invented content. The name data and articles on Lucky Stork are researched and written by people. We do not generate meanings, origins, or pronunciations with AI.
